New Year Renovation

My son called the other day to tell me that his truck broke down. He explained that an ignition relay fuse blew and shorted out the entire electrical system. He couldn’t believe something so small would have such a huge impact on the entire truck. This little fuse shut the entire truck down and made it non-drivable. He kept buying little fuses as a quick fix to start the truck instead of taking it in to get it fixed properly. Eventually, this stopped working, and the truck had to be towed and repaired the right way.

I couldn’t get the picture of this little fuse shutting down the truck out of my mind. I felt the nudging of the Holy Spirit wanting to show me something with this scenario. He impressed upon my heart to find out more about what an ignition relay fuse does for a truck. According to Google, this fuse is responsible for providing power to the vehicle's ignition system and some of the fuel system's components. When the relay fails or has an issue, it can cause major problems with the vehicle's operation.

This is very interesting. I continued to allow the Holy Spirit to speak to my heart, showing me that our thoughts are like this fuse. Our thoughts provide the power to propel our lives forward or backward. Our thoughts can make us or break us. Our thoughts reflect what we truly believe about our self and God. We create the world around us with what we believe in our hearts and speak from our mouths. We see this in the following Scriptures: “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.” Proverbs 23:7 and "Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit—you choose.” Proverbs 18:21

Have you ever had one little negative thought creep in? Here are a few examples: You don’t have what it takes. You are not qualified to lead in that way. You are a failure. No one likes you. My kids will always make bad decisions. Nothing will ever change.

It only takes one negative thought to start the downward spiral in your thinking that can literally shut you down. These thoughts can lead you into fear, anxiety, depression, anger, unforgiveness, shame, etc. All of these things can affect you emotionally, spiritually, and physically. Dr. Caroline Leaf says this in her book Switch On Your Brain, “As we think, we change the physical nature of our brain. As we consciously direct our thinking, we can wire out toxic patterns of thinking and replace them with healthy thoughts.”

We tend to look for a quick fix, much like my son did, instead of addressing the issue when we notice it is a problem. I’m not sure where your fuses (thoughts) are these days or if any need to be replaced but God has a solution for us. In Romans 12:2 in the Aramaic Bible, it says, “And do not imitate this world, but be transformed by the renovation of your minds, and you shall distinguish what is the good, acceptable and perfect will of God.” This translation uses the word renovation in place of renewing, used in all the other translations. Renovation makes me think of tearing down the old structures and replacing them with brand new structures. It is a brand-new year, and what a perfect time to do some renovation in our thinking. We can tear down the lies and replace them with the truth of Scripture. I have a free E-Book called Renew 2 Roar that you can use to get started. It is full of Scripture declarations, decrees, and prayers that will help you renew or renovate your thinking so you can rule and reign in life as God intended you to. “And have made us kings and priests to our God, And we shall reign on the earth.” Revelation 5:10

One last thing, our thoughts lead to words that lead to actions that lead to habits that affect our character that shapes our destiny. The time is now to step into your destiny!
